It begins!!!!…..again!!!!

Hello

Following on from last time, I tried to get more writing done to make up for a week of doing barely any. I succeeded, slightly by writing one character profile and two fully formed ideas for short to possibly long stories,   but I now have a clear idea of what to with my next writing week.

Read.

I’ve been receiving emails from NaNoWriMo (http://nanowrimo.org/) regarding preparation for the glorious event. I already know what story I’m going to write, well, continue to write as I’ve already written five chapters of it, and I hope I’ll be able to finish it or at least get within touching distance of its end by the close of November. And I already know how I’m going to prepare for it. About a week before hand I’m going to start on the character profiles for the story. It’s the same thing I did last year but in a lot more detail.

But then I read a few posts from another blogger, whose website seems to be down, about how she was preparing for November by reading a daft amount of books. I’ve always said to myself that I would like to have a reading week where I try to make a dent in my ever increasing pile of books I have to read, but I’ve never quite gotten round to it.

So this week is officially….My Reading Week.

I started by finishing ‘The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time’ by Mark Haddon, which I completely recommend as it was a great read throughout, last night and will now move onto finishing 1984 by George Orwell. Then, if I finish 1984 by this time next week, I’ll go onto ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’ by Philip K. Dick. I’ve been looking forward to reading a Philip K. Dick book for years after seeing many great to awful adaptations of his stories.

So, there you have it. To prepare for November I’m going to read and then write. But I leave you with one very important question….

Do I watch Blade Runner before or after reading the story that was based on?

Cheers

  1. What book is Bladerunner based on? I really want to watch it again to get a feel for the cyberpunk genre. Only half watched it and that was a long time ago. Good luck! I’m excited for another year at it.

    1. Blade runner is based on ‘do androids dream of electric sheep’ by philip k. dick.
I’ve wanted to read a lot of philip k dicks stuff as a lot of his stories have been made into films like total recall, scanner darkly, minority report and loads more.
I did nanowrimo last year and it was good. If u average 2000 words a day it gives u a few spare days for research or doing nothing.
      Good luck as well!

  2. Hey! So, because I think your blog is awesome, I’ve nominated you for a Leibster Award! I did a post about the whole thing earlier today, which I’ve included at the bottom for more info and details and all that jazz about it, but just know that there are absolutely no strings attached and you can accept or not accept if you want. It’s just a nice little way of expressing my appreciation as a reader for your blog 🙂

Also, best of luck with your reading week! I’m doing the same, currently working on The Talented Mr. Ripley. I haven’t read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, so if you do get around to finishing it please let me know if it’s worth checking out, because I’ve been hearing good things about it for forever. Finally: how awesome is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time?? One of my all-time favorites.

    1. Hello

Thanks for the nomination! I’d be more than happy to accept the award and pass it on other blogs.

You think my blog is awesome? Thanks again! I must be doing something right then with this little blog of mine. I have enjoyed reading your blog as well. I’ll get right to answering your questions in my next post and nominating people.

And as for my writing week, I’m really looking forward it. Going to start this evening with 1984. I’m close to the end so many I’ll finish it before tiredness creeps up on me. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is pretty good. I don’t have many books I would read again but that one has made the list.

      Thanks yet a third time!

    2. Hello

I’m in the process of doing the Leibster Award and have noticed that I don’t follow any blogs that have under 1000 followers. This isn’t by choice its just kind of happened. You reckon it would be ok to complete part of the Leibster Award things and then nominate someone later on?

      Cheers

      1. Well, the criteria that the girl who nominated me gave me is that they are just “small” blogs, which she categorized as being under 3000 followers. I’ve seen so many different numbers on how many followers a blog needs to be under in order to be applicable, I think it’d be more important to just pick a handful of small bloggers.

I need to re-read 1984, I haven’t read it since high school but I remember liking it. Plus, it’s so applicable, especially today. Good luck finishing it!
