Readers Hating Other Readers

Hello

This is a post from my first ever blog follower. Have a look as I think and hope this trend will stop at some point. Though that is a strong impossibility.

We live in an era of hate. Instead of praising our favorite singers, we are tearing down one that doesn’t even matter to us. Instead of leaving a 5-star review on one of our favorite books, we are leaving a 1-star review on the recently highlighted one. Instead of looking up neat dance videos, we are watching a series of YouTube flicks of people falling down during their wedding day. For every person who loves something, there are ten people who are trying to tear it down just for fun.

At some point, it became “cool” to “hate” on whatever is out there – generally the latest, most popular-selling item. I could write about all kinds of hate in our culture, but I would rather focus on the “hating” that is happening between readers. I want to clarify that I realize most people do not participate in this hating. It’s often…

Friday Funday: 1920s Slang

Nice post from the bewildered 20-something writer. As always 🙂

Happy Friday dear readers! I hope all of your Fridays are passing quickly as we head into the winter holidays and vacation time. My vacation is starting a bit early, with my whole family home today and dragging me out to see Catching Fire for a second time, so this post will be a bit brief because I need to go and get my Jennifer Lawrence on (yeeessss).

As you all know, I’m a big fan of bringing back awesome obsolete words and phrases, because more often than not that are infinitely cooler the things we say now. This is especially the case when it comes to slang, which’s why I was so happy when a good writing friend of mine sent me this post on Thought Catalog of 59 More Slang Phrases From The 1920s We Should Start Using Again. Yolo and twerk have got nothing on some…

Friday Funday: Great Novels Remade by Cats

Hello

Thought I’d reblog this as:

1. Its pretty awesome.
2. It reminds me of a game I play every so often at work. The game involves replacing one word out of a film title with the word cat.

For example, iron cat, the cat, the bad and ugly, cat on the hot tin cat and so on.

Bye

Happy Friday dear readers! I hope your last work day before the weekend is going as smoothly as possible.

A few years back, Buzzfeed put together a list of some of the best Photoshopped book covers of all time, altering classic novels as if they had been written with cats in mind. These fictional works of kitty fiction (how meta) feature adjusted titles and book covers, and the writers over at Buzzfeed even included brief synopses. All of them are great, so be sure to check out the entire list here, but in the mean time, here are some of the highlights. Enjoy!

Crossing between London and Paris, this Dickensian story of disparate lives of alley cats versus aristocats paints a stark portrait of feline famine in prerevolutionary France and the inequities inherent between tabby cats and pure breeds.

Catsby, being a cat, doesn’t really care all that much…

Does it have to be a novel?

Hello

I took part in nanowrimo last year and successfully wrote 50,000 words of a novel I ended up finishing the following May.

I remember reading last time round that 50,000 words of a novel is good enough and it doesn’t have to be a the total word count for it.

So, should I aim to finish my novel in November or try and get as close as I can?

Cheers

A quick thank you.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me to reach 50 total likes for my blog posts.

I hope you’ll help me, and I’ll gladly help you of course, get another 50.
